White Boxer Dog

A white Boxer Dog is disqualified from the shows by some breed standards, because solid white color was linked to dangerous hereditary disorders in this breed. Though nowadays, such disorders can be prevented by screening the breeding stock, solid white Boxers and those with predominant white coat color cannot compete in shows.

Actually, white Boxers are fawns or brindles with very large white markings that cover most of the coat. Although a solid white Boxer Dog is disqualified from a show ring, high quality Boxers may have white spots known as “flash.” Classic Boxers have little flashing confined to the chest and feet. White markings are permitted to cover up to one-third of the coat. “Flashy” or “semi-flashy” Boxer Dogs have white markings on the face, neck, and legs. “Ultra flashy” Boxers are completely or predominately white.

A responsible breeder who cares for the health of the puppies will not breed a white Boxer Dog on purpose, but white coloration can occur in a puppy, if one or two parents had a white spotting gene. A puppy with two copies of that gene is born completely white. Studying the pedigrees of both parents helps avoid white coat coloration in this breed. The traditional coat color of the Boxer is fawn that varies from light golden to red and mahogany. Brindle is a variety of fawn with black stripes. Some dogs have so many black stripes that they appear almost totally black. Such dogs are called “reverse brindles.” There are no solid black dogs in this breed. A solid black Boxer is either a “reverse brindle” or a mongrel.

When choosing a dog of any breed, pay attention to its personality and temperament. With Boxers and other large and powerful breeds, the wrong choice of a dog can lead to serious problems. Prior to making a final decision, ask about the pedigree of a dog or a puppy, visit the kennel, and see the parents of the litter. Talk to the breeder and explain what kind of a dog you need. If a breeder offers a white Boxer Dog as a rare color variety and charges extra for it, look for another breeder.
