Boxers Puppy - Standard Description

Boxers are strong and square bodied. They have well developed muscular systems and hard bones. Muscles are tense and smooth and the gait is, light and noble. When running, the Boxer carries the head high, which adds pride to the overall appearance. Boxers have short coat, small paws and dark eyes.
Height: Males 23-25 inches, females 21-23 inches
Weight: Males 60-70 pounds, females 55-65 pounds

Boxers Puppy - Size and Proportion

The distance from the chest front to the rear edge of the thigh should equal the height from the ground to the withers. The build of the Boxer body is compact, strong, muscular and square-shaped. Males' bones are bigger than females'.

Boxers Puppy - Head

The head must feature a harmonious proportion between the skull and the muzzle. The muzzle is 1/3 the distance between the occiput and the tip of the nose and 2/3 the skull width. Forehead is smooth, although when ears are erect, wrinkles appear. The Boxer's face is highly expressive, and wrinkles reflect a dog's mood with an amusing precision. Eyes are dark, set wide apart and are not excessively prominent. The ears placement is well set apart. The top of the skull slightly curves. There is a small hollow between the eyes. The occiput is not protruding. The overall look of the head underscores balance and proportion.

The upper jaw is shorter than the lower one. The incisor teeth of the lower jaw are in a straight line, the fangs are set slightly ahead and accurately at the sides of the jaw to form a quadrangular shape of the muzzle. The lips of the upper jaw are thick enough to make up for the gap between the upper and the lower jaw. The upper incisors are set in a curved line, the side teeth fitting behind the long lower fangs.

Boxers Puppy - Body

The Boxer's neck is graceful, round and muscular, not wrinkly. It has a distinctively marked nape. The back is not very long. It is tough and slightly inclining. The chest is deep and volumetric, the sternum being approximately at the level of the elbows. The ribcage is elongated and not barrel shaped. The underside tucks up. The croup is broad and flat. Pelvis is wide (pelvis of females is noticeably wider). The gait is smooth and covers ground.

Boxers Puppy - Forequarters and hindquarters

The shoulder blades are parallel and short. The leg placement is at the right angle to the blades. Front legs are long and straight. The elbows should not be either too near to the chest nor should they go far to the sides. The pasterns are straight and almost perpendicular to the ground. The toes should arch well.

The thighs of a Boxer are long, wide and muscular. The hind legs are straight. The hock joints are set properly, without leaning in or out. The lower leg is almost perpendicular to the ground or is slightly sloped backwards. It must be strong and short.

Boxers Puppy - Coat

The coat is short and smooth, and it has a metallic sheen. Color ranges from light tan to bright red. Boxers often come in brindle color. Characterizing the coat is occasional and sparse dark strips or heavy concentration of stripes with the essential background color only slightly, but clearly showing between the strips. Boxers have white markings on the muzzle, chest and sometimes on the backside. The white can cover a considerable part of the coat, but it should not exceed one third of the body.

Boxers Puppy - Temperament

Despite their somewhat sinister and aggressive appearance, Boxers are amiable and playful. They are strong, loyal and protective, and therefore wary of strangers. However, they do not mind making friends, if he or she appears trustworthy to them. Boxers are active and convivial, and they suffer when left alone for a long time. In fighting against enemies and in protecting their masters and property Boxers are reckless, indomitable and intrepid.
