Boxers are highly trainable and intelligent. They are full of energy and stamina. These are their natural qualities. They constantly and thoroughly need boosting and support throughout their entire life. Boxers can tolerate heat very well, but they are susceptible to cold and should not play outside for a long time during cold periods.
Boxers are friendly and sociable. If there are other pets in your house, the Boxer must learn to get on well with them from early puppyhood. Boxers are extremely boisterous, and need hours of rigorous exercise every day. Do not ignore active plays unless you want your dog to take it out on your flatware and furniture. Boxers are fond of toying, and the presence of toys is of paramount importance. Boxers toy with things in a funny cat-like fashion.
Boxers often exercise 'bumping' people. Train your dog not to do this. If you do this properly, in due time you are not going to have a hard time training out this trait. Boxers have short coat, therefore you will not have grooming problems. Do not bathe your dog too frequently because this may result in washing away of natural grease causing excessive dryness of the skin and coat.
Do not forget to contact your local breeder club or the breeder from whom you have purchased your pup. They can provide you with knowledge on nutrition, health problems and ways of treatment. They also conduct dog-training classes and monitor the dog's behavior and condition. Remember, Boxers are not good for those who stay out of home most of the time!
