The breed was originally developed to serve as guards, working and companion dogs. These are medium-sized, square built dogs. They have muscular bodies, strong limbs, and short, tight-fitting coat. They are dignified and have a proud carriage. The accepted coat colors are fawn and brindle. Most dogs possessing the white color of the coat have some spots on their skin. They are not albinos, since they have pigment in their eyes. These dogs have a striking appearance and playful and fun loving temperament. They are nicknamed Peter Pans of the dog world.
