Also believed is, that in the first half of the 19th century, the Brabanter Bullenbeisser was crossbred with the English bulldog and, thus, the Boxer was produced. According to another theory, Boxers are descendants of two German Mastiff type dogs - Bullenbeiszer and Barenbeiszer, which are crosses with early ancestors of the Mastiff and the Bulldog.

The first Boxers were white in color and had a tough and aggressive temper. Their instinct to use front paws in fights and games, along with sturdy appearance have earned them the name. Founders formed the first German boxer club in the 1860s. However, it was not until 1895 that the club actually received an official status.

As the popularity of the dog increased, it was more and more widely used as a police dog, and the white color of the coat finally lost its value, because it made Boxers conspicuous. In 1925, judges considered white dogs faulty and since then they have lost their show ring status. The American Kennel Club officially recognized the first champion among Boxers in 1915 in the USA.
